Anita Downs

January 16, 1941 — October 8, 2019

Anita Marie Downs, 78, passed away Tuesday. October 8, 2019 at her home in Casselberry, FL. She was born in Cleveland, OH on January 16, 1941 to the late Charles and Arlene Ross. In 1959, her family moved to Florida.

Anita enjoyed her time working at Universal Studios and prior to that worked in the respiratory departments at Florida Hospital in Altamonte Springs and Baptist Hospital in Miami. She loved to travel, especially to see her son, Tom, and family for holidays in Indiana. Her visits to Colorado to spend time with her nieces and their families were frequent. She never missed an opportunity to be with her family. Some of her happiest memories were from trips she took with her mother, who was also her best friend. Her favorite trips included Israel, Spain and a Caribbean cruise.

The background of Anita’s life was surrounded by her Christian faith which she emanated to all those around her. She devoted a lot of time to her church where she was surrounded by amazing friends. Anita was always there to lend a helping hand. She was selfless in giving her time to family, friends, and her church community.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Lynne Winokur and brother-in-law Richard Winokur; and several aunts and uncles.

Anita is survived by her loving son, Thomas Downs and his wife Jayne of Evansville IN; granddaughter Courtney Merkel (Patrick Lewis) of Evansville IN; grandson Tyler Merkel (Tara) and 10 week-old great granddaughter, Parker Mae, of Indianapolis IN; her adored nieces, Robyn Biggers (Matt) and their daughters, Peyton and Avery, of Broomfield CO; Heather O'Donnell (James) and their children Dylan and Madeline, of Denver CO; Samantha Winokur and her daughter, Savannah, of New Smyrna FL; and nephew, Peter Winokur, of New Smyrna FL; special loved ones, Kim and Cary Fields, of New Smyrna FL; and many dear friends.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 13, 2019 from 12pm – 2pm at Highland Funeral Home, 3329 E. Semoran Blvd., Apopka FL., where funeral services will be held on Monday, October 14, 2019 beginning at 10am. Mrs. Downs will be laid to rest immediately following in Highland Memory Gardens, Apopka FL.
