Betty L. Briganti died Friday evening, November 20, 2020. Her health had been declining recently. She had been up and about, watching television, and chatting most of the day.
A private graveside service was held with family members at Highland Memory Gardens in Apopka, Florida, on Friday, November 27, 2020.
Betty is survived by her daughter Darla B. Kain and grandson J. Brandon Kain, daughter Terry B. Freeman (David), her granddaughters Amanda L. Freeman and Acacia D. Freeman, brother Howard Cooper Jr. “Coop)” (Judith), and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband David J. Briganti, parents Howard D. Cooper Sr. and Elsie Harris Cooper, sisters Grayce Robinson (Jim) and Shirley Bucy (Harry).
Betty was born on December 29, 1936, in Toronto, Ohio. She grew up in Steubenville, Ohio. She moved to Altamonte Springs, Florida with her husband and children in 1967. She attended the Presbyterian Church in Ohio and joined UCC Altamonte Chapel when she moved to Florida.
Betty graduated from Steubenville High School “Big Red”. She worked as a telephone operator at Ohio Bell until her marriage. Betty met her husband, David, while both worked at Ohio Bell. They started their lifelong love of dancing while dating. They walked the picket line together during strikes. They were married for 62 years.
Her grandchildren remember: her pumpkin pie, their voice and video calls with her, her stories about learning to make pasta sauce from her mother-in-law, her pizzelles, advice on buying quality furniture, the huge Easter Baskets she gave them, so many stories and memories were shared.
Her daughters will always remember her love for her family, family were her entire world. Mom was like a box of chocolates. You never knew what you were going to get! She could be delicate or tough as nails. Caring at times, but not afraid to be harsh. Vulnerable at times, but a volatile temper at other times. We remember her extraordinary shopping skills and shoe collection, sense of style and color, her “telephone operator” voice, Mom always took great pride in keeping our home clean and decorated beautifully.
We are grateful to all who helped care for Mom over the last few years.
