To be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord.
The light goes out of life for us when the world turns dark and dreary, as God calls unto himself Egzie (Mom), the one we hold most dear, on August 22, 2022.
February 6th, 1929 was a joyous day in the lives of Victor and Ada Chambers, when they welcomed their lovely baby girl Egzie Madora. Egzie, was the second child born to the union in Good Hope, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica West Indies. Her parents later moved to Park District, where she attended Park Mountain School. After leaving school, she decided to become a seamstress - She excelled and enjoyed it immensely. All seven of her children proudly wore their designer clothes made by Mama Egzie.
Education, Respect and Integrity were of paramount importance to her. She made sure we all attended school, which assisted us in taking our rightful place in society.
It was April 1971, when mom emigrated to the USA. She settled in Brooklyn, NY with her children. She worked as a House Keeping Supervisor in the Hospitality Industry - until her retirement 30 years ago. Mom never met a stranger... she made many life-long friends whom she loved dearly and treated them like family. She never looked down on anyone, except to pull them up.
Egzie (Mom) feared God and trusted Him in everything she did. One could hear her calling on God during the good times and bad times. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, many years ago at Rugby Congregational Church in Brooklyn, NY. Years later she attended Plymouth Congregational Church where she loved the preaching and teaching. She eventually became a faithful member.
As years went by, she became tired of the cold weather in Brooklyn, NY and with much enthusiasm, she decided to relocate last year to Apopka, Florida. She was extremely happy and had great plans for her new life in Florida. But God, had other plans for her! He called her home to glory at 2:50 A.M. on August 22, 2022.
Egzie is survived by her loving children Dulcie Mundle, Marjorie Gordon, Tony Stewart, Nashlyn Stewart, Joan Stewart, Ewart Stewart and Jacqueline Cooper.
Brothers: Nermy and Melford Chambers; Sister: Cislyn Taylor; Daughters-in-law: Quettf and Denise Stewart; Son-in-law: Donovan Gordon. 14 grand-children, 13 great grand-children, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of family and friends.
Servant of God, well done! Thy glorious warfare passed. The battle is fought, the race is won and thou art crowned at last.
Sweet be your sleep mom. May light perpetual shine upon you.
