Ella M. Bellis, 96, beloved Mother and Grandmother, was called to her eternal resting place on May 14, 2019. She entered this world on February 7, 1923 in Lykens, PA, born to John Earl and Cora Barry. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Charles David Bellis. She is survived by three children, Linda Zerbe, Dalmatia, PA; Judy Ryder, Knoxville, TN; and David Bellis, Clinton, TN; and preceded in death by daughter Karen Hicks, Huntingtown, MD. She is survived by 14 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. She is survived by one sister, Mary Sara Gunderman, Millersburg, PA; and was preceded in death by sisters Mildred Hartman, Gratz, PA; and Irene Deibler, Millersburg, PA. She is also survived by three brothers, William Barry, Mechanicsburg, PA; Roy Barry, Elizabethville, PA; and Lester Barry, Millersburg, PA. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Ralph Barry, Curtain, PA; Floyd Barry, Curtain, PA; Albert Barry, Millersburg, PA; and Robert Barry, Millersburg, PA.
Ella loved the Lord, her family, and children and took care everyone who came her way. She cooked and baked, welcoming family and strangers alike to her home and table. She gave generously of herself, and was willing to listen and offer support at any time. For many years, she cared for neighborhood children, who still kept in contact with her because of her love and the way she influenced their lives.
In her later years, Ella enjoyed gardening, knitting, stamp and coin collecting and she was an avid reader. She was known for making her famous Easter Candy, Sand Tart cookies and countless delicious recipes that she would gladly make upon request. She read her Bible daily and had a special relationship with the Lord. She was always ready with her words of wisdom and guidance.
