Fern Elise Loory

Fern Elise Hoppenstand Loory, 62, passed away on Friday, March 21 surrounded by her loving family.

Fern faced her battle with pancreatic cancer with strength and her signature sense of humor, supported by those who cherished her every step of the way.

Born November 17, 1962 in Chicago, IL, she was the beloved daughter of Blanche (Karlinsky) and Herman "Hye" Hoppenstand and the cherished sister of Jeffrey and Hildy (David). She attended the Ida Crown Jewish Academy in Skokie, IL and graduated from Columbia College of Chicago.

Fern's career as a graphics operator was nothing short of extraordinary. From CNN to traveling with the Chicago Cubs, she played a role in broadcasting multiple major sporting championships, countless Olympics games, elections, and even a James Cameron expedition to the Titanic.

Above all, Fern was a devoted mother and friend. She married Joshua Loory in 1987 and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures. She is survived by her beloved husband, Joshua; her children, Matthew (Shakira) and Ilana (Nate, Nathan, Nathaniel); and her sister, Hildy. She also leaves behind many cherished friends and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents Blanche, Herman, and her brother Jeffrey.

Fern touched the lives of so many with her generosity and sense of humor. No one was ever turned away from her kitchen table, whether for a holiday celebration or a simple get-together among friends. Her legacy lives on through the lessons she taught, the love she shared, and the memories she created.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, March 23 at Highland Memorial Gardens at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her honor to AdventHealth Hospice Care Central Florida.

Though she is no longer with us, her light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
