Gerda Hintz, 91, of Longwood, Florida, went to God on February 15, 2025
Gerda was born on October 19, 1933 to Kurt and Otilla Indinger in Duisburg-Hamborn, Germany. After WWII, she finished her basic schooling and began her training as a professional shopkeeper. She quickly rose to store manager for the bakery for which she worked.
A faithful Christian who loved her God and who always kept her Bible close at hand, she met her future husband, Rudy, through relatives at a church event. He was in the US Army at the time and after only eight dates, they became engaged and were married in March 1956. Shortly after, they departed Germany to reside in Milwaukee, WI where they began their married life. After 59 years of marriage, her dear Rudy passed away in 2015.
Gerda was a fulltime wife and mother and with her husband a businesswoman who managed several family-owned investment properties for over 40 years, including the Chalet Bakery in Minoqua, WI and the Alpine Inn and Restaurant in Maggie Valley, NC, as well as numerous apartment buildings. She was incredibly proud of her three children-Ralph, Berny, and Sandy-and their educational and professional accomplishments.
After Rudy passed, Gerda spent her "single years" at Cascades Independent Living where she volunteered at the giftshop there and crafted many beaded works of art that won prizes. She touched many residents with her warmth, wit and wisdom. Her greatest joy, though, was being a grandmother (Omi) to her beloved seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
She is survived by Ralph and Carla Hintz of West Palm Beach, FL; Berny and Christine Hintz of Annapolis, MD; and Sandy and Matthew Clear, of Longwood, FL as well as her grandchildren: Maximillian Hintz, Allegra Hintz, Justin Hintz, Gwendolyn Hintz, and Jordan, Logan, and Victoria Clear. Three great grandchildren: Jack and Zoey Hintz and June Clear. She forever mourned the loss of her beloved son, Terry Roger who passed away shortly after birth in 1962.
Services will be held on Friday, February 21st at Highland Funeral Home, 3329 East Semoran Blvd., Apopka with viewing for friends from 10:30-11:30 am. Funeral Services will be held immediately following beginning at 11:30am. Burial will take place afterwards at Highland Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either Samaritan's Purse (https://www.samaritanspurse.org), or St. Jude's Children's Hospital (https://www.stjude.org)in Gerda's memory.
