Joseph Ronald Zmuda, Jr.
-age 81, of Outdoor Resorts of Orlando in Clermont, Florida, passed away April 17, 2018 of Congestive Heart Failure. A gathering of friends and family will be held Thursday, April 26, 2018 from 5pm - 8pm at Highland Funeral Home, Apopka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, April 27th, 11am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 834 South Orange Blossom Trail, Apopka; (407) 886-4602.
Mr. Zmuda was born February 2, 1937 in Buffalo, NY to Joseph Ronald Zmuda,Sr. and Florence Guzinski. He was the youngest of four with three older sisters. At the age of 17 he joined the Army's 101st Airborne Division as a paratrooper. After his honorable discharge he returned to Buffalo and met his then to be future wife, Velma Jean Anderson at Eddie and Wally's Pub and they were married on November 26, 1960. Mr. and Mrs. Zmuda had two children, Joseph Ronald Zmuda, of Windermere, FL, born in 1961 and Robert Franklin Zmuda of Bryson City, born in 1964.
The Family moved to Apopka, FL in 1971. While living in Apopka, Mr. and Mrs. Zmuda worked together operating Joe's Chevron of Apopka, at the corner of 441 and Sheeler Road, for 14 years. Together, they enjoyed camping in their RV as members of the Winnebago Club, as well as volunteering at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, serving in numerous positions. Joe and Velma Zmuda moved to Clermont in 1985. While in Clermont the Zmuda's volunteered at the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary, Queen of the Universe until 2006. Joe also enjoyed working at Sea World for 11 years at numerous locations including the Hospitality House.
After his beloved Velma passed June 29, 2010, Joe left Sea World and enjoyed spending his time cruising on the high seas. Most of all he loved telling jokes to his family and friends, and will be missed greatly by everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his two children Joseph (Carol) and Robert (Corrina); four grandchildren Valerie, Crystal (Bryan Simmons), Ronald (London Dewey), and Nicole; sister Pat Bishop of Buffalo, NY; Sister Theresa Zaehringer of Iowa, numerous nephews and nieces, great-nephews and nieces, and great-great-nephews and nieces.
