Karl Edd

On February 4, 2019, Dr. Karl N. White-Davis passed away unexpectedly. We celebrate the life of Karl Neumarx White-Davis, born in the Caribbean island of Jamaica, on March 16, 1945, second of six children to the late Albert G. and Catherine C. White-Davis (Heywood). Karl was united in marriage to his childhood sweetheart from Jamaica, Vivienne Creary, on June 27,1970. To this union a son, Paul, and daughter, Tanya, were born.

Karl attended Hampstead Primary in St Mary, Jamaica, and when his family relocated to Kingston, he attended the Bumper Hall Technical school, Excelsior Extension High School, and the Extra-Mural Studies of the University of the West Indies. In 1967, Karl migrated to Brooklyn, New York, in the United States to further his education. He received his Bachelor Degree in Economics with a minor in Africana Studies from Brooklyn College. He received a Masters Degree in Political Economics from the New School of Social Research in New York. He went on to earn his Doctorate in Education from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Born into a devoted Christian home, Karl was a faithful and dedicated Christian. His early childhood Christian education was at the Hampstead Presbyterian Church in St. Mary, the Vineyard Town Methodist Church in Kingston Jamaica, St. Marks United Methodist Church in Brooklyn New York, and finally the Bear Lake United Methodist Church (BLUMC), in Apopka, Florida. He and his family have been active and faithful members of BLUMC since 1983. The Sunday before Karl's passing he was one of the ushers at the church and was preparing to give a presentation for the special Black History Month service.

Karl worked with Time-Life News Service in New York, from October 22, 1968 to October 23, 1981 in the Cable Distribution Service and later, for the magazine division. Working for Time-Life, Inc., provided Karl the opportunity to further indulge in his passion for photography. Time-Life, Inc. sponsored his training in photography and gave him photojournalism assignments. They even provided him space in their office building in New York, to hold a personal exhibit. Karl's gift for photography led to his work being exhibited at the 1975 New York State Fair: Empire Expo, where his work was further recognized by the Director of Fair.

In June 1982, Karl and his family relocated to Apopka, Florida, where he lived until his passing.
Karl worked at the Florida Revenue Service from 1987 until 2010, when he "semi-retired." Karl's dissertation for his Doctorate in Education and Leadership, formed a basis of transformation of policies and procedures within the Florida Department of Revenue, which lead him to receive a "Leadership Strategic Initiative" award.

Karl has always had a passion for education and teaching. He worked for Orange County public schools for approximately five years in the 1980's as a substitute teacher. Karl later became an adjunct professor at Rollins College in the early 1990's, teaching a course on the Political Economy of the English-Speaking Caribbean. After his retirement from the Florida Revenue Service, Karl then taught as an Adjunct Professor, at Seminole State College and later as an Associate Professor in Economics at Valencia College up until his passing.

Karl was preceded in death by his mother, father, older brother, Albert J. White-Davis, and younger sister, Dr. Hope P. White-Davis. Karl leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife, Vivienne Ceta White-Davis; son, Paul Neumarx White-Davis Esq.; daughter, Dr. Tanya Moniki White-Davis; daughter-in-law, Shereen Michalee White-Davis; granddaughter, Mikayla Imani White-Davis; brother, Dr. Gerald White-Davis; sisters, Evangelist, Janet McIntosh and Sonia Ferguson; brother-in-laws, Astley Ferguson, Carl Creary, Noel Creary, Jr. and George Finney; sisters-in-law, Myrna White-Davis, Helene Barbara Finney, Joan Spooner, Colleen Creary, and Auldith Patricia Jordan; cousin (and family matriarch), Barbara McCleary and cousin-in-law George McCleary, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends around the globe.
