Rebeca Rios

Rebeca Pupo Balboa nació en Holguín, Cuba, el 6 de noviembre de 1950, del matrimonio de Juan Pupo y Josefa Balboa. La cuarta hija de cinco hermanas, creció en un hogar lleno de alegría y m&uacutesica. Sus pasatiempos favoritos incluyeron tocar el piano, el acordeón, pintar, leer, montar bicicletas y participar en carreras de campo y pista, entre otras cosas. Pero sus más preciados recuerdos incluyen el visitar a personas interesadas en el evangelio junto a su padre, hombre de espíritu generoso y misionero. A él le atribuyó sus rasgos más prominentes, su generosidad y amor por las almas y el evangelio.
A la edad de 18 años, unos meses antes de la salida de sus padres de Cuba, Rebeca contrajo matrimonio con Rolando de los Ríos, joven ministro al cual había conocido en su niñez, quien había estudiado en el Colegio de las Antillas con sus hermanas. De esa unión les nació su &uacutenica hija, Raiza, la cual fue un aliciente en los largos 11 años que pasó separada de sus padres y hermanas. Ese tiempo fue un período de entrenamiento para Rebeca quien se convirtió en una excelente y dinámica esposa de pastor.
En 1980, la familia se trasladó a los Estados Unidos tras una pequeña escala en Costa Rica. Después de un corto período aprendiendo inglés en la Universidad de Andrews, la familia se estableció en New Jersey donde Rolando ejerció como pastor y director de la obra hispana. Con su energía y valor característico, Rebeca empezó como trabajadora en una fábrica de comidas griegas y antes del año ya se había convertido en la asistente y luego directora de laboratorio. Cuando Rolando empezó a trabajar en el programa de televisión, Ayer, Hoy, Mañana, Rebeca se incorporó al equipo como secretaria, trabajo que los llevó a los suburbios de Orlando, Florida en 1987. En el estado de la Florida es que Rebeca ejerció su más largo ministerio, tanto como secretaria voluntaria del departamento hispano de la Asociación de la Florida, donde su esposo ejercía como Vicepresidente, como de ayudante y luego directora del Ministerio Infantil, de Solteros y Ministerio Familiar, título que ocupó hasta su fallecimiento el 21 de mayo de 2018. Por 25 años se volcó en pasión por los niños y familias de la Florida, organizando maravillosos entrenamientos y extraordinarias convenciones para maestros de niños, parejas y solteros a la misma vez que apoyando a su esposo en evangelismo.
Rebeca era una amante de su familia (natural y adoptada). Su amor por las fiestas, viajes y cualquier comida y función tenía como propósito el unir a sus seres amados para disfrutar de momentos inolvidables en camaradería. En sus &uacuteltimos, cortos días de enfermedad (Marzo - Mayo), su salud no le permitió trabajar, pero a pesar de sus limitaciones y hasta ingresada en el hospital conservó esas cualidades que la hacían &uacutenica: Su espíritu misionero y generoso y su amor por el evangelio.
Le sobreviven su esposo Rolando, su hija, Raiza, su yerno, Leo, sus nietas Kassandra y Brianna, así como sus hermanas Norma, Juana, é�ngela, y una gran familia de cuñados, cuñadas, sobrinos, sobrinas, y amistades que se incluyen como familiares.
Rebeca descansará en el Highland Memory Gardens, en Apopka, Florida, con vista hacia el Este, donde pronto será levantada por su añorado ángel guardián y se unirá al coro de VBS más grande que pueda haber imaginado y donde su energía, generosidad y amor por Cristo no tendrán fecha de expiración.


Rebeca Pupo Balboa was born in Holguín, Cuba, on November 6, 1950, to Juan Pupo and Josefa Balboa. The fourth of five daughters, she grew up in a home full of joy and music. Her favorite pastimes included playing the piano, accordion, painting, reading, cycling and track and field, among other things. But her most precious memories include accompanying her dad, a generous man with a love for the gospel, as he studied the Bible with people.

At the age of 18, a few months before the departure of her parents from Cuba, Rebeca married Rolando de los Ríos, a young minister whom she had known as a child and who had studied at the Antillean College with her sisters. From that union their only daughter, Raiza, was born. She quickly became her comfort during those long 11 years away from her family. That time was a training period for Rebeca who became an excellent and dynamic pastor's wife.
In 1980, the family moved to the United States after a small stop in Costa Rica. After a short period at Andrews University (taking English classes), the family settled in New Jersey where Rolando served as pastor and director of the Hispanic Ministries. With the energy and courage with which she was characterized, Rebeca began to work in a Greek factory and before the year was over, she had already become the assistant and then the laboratory director. When Rolando started working on the television program, ‘Ayer, Hoy, Manana', (Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow), Rebeca joined the team as secretary, a job that took them to the suburbs of Orlando, Florida in 1987. In the state of Florida, Rebeca exercised her longest ministry, both as volunteer secretary of the Hispanic Department of the Florida Conference, where her husband served as vice president, but also as assistant and then director of Children's Ministry, Singles and Family Life Ministries, title that she held until her death on May 21, 2018. For more than 20 years she passionately led the children and families of the State of Florida, organizing wonderful trainings and extraordinary conventions for Sabbath School teachers, couples and singles while supporting her husband in evangelism.
Rebeca was a lover of her family (natural and adopted). Her love for parties, trips and any food and function had the purpose of uniting her loved ones in order to enjoy unforgettable moments in camaraderie. In her last, short days of illness (March - May), her health did not allow her to work, but despite her limitations, and while in the hospital, she kept those qualities that made her unique: Her missionary and generous spirit and her love for the gospel.

She is survived by her husband Rolando, her daughter, Raiza, her son-in-law, Leo, their granddaughters Kassandra and Brianna, as well as her sisters Norma, Juana, Angela, and a large family of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends which include friends who are close as family.

Rebeca will be laid to rest at Highland Memory Gardens, in Apopka, Florida, with a view of the East, where one day she will be brought forth by her long-awaited guardian angel to join the largest VBS choir she ever imagined, and where her energy, generosity and love for Christ will not have an expiration date.
