Sarah Jane Leddy Spell went to her heavenly home on December 15, 2018. She was surrounded in love and support by her husband, family members, relatives, and friends. Jane was born on April 28, 1937 in South Hampton, Long Island, New York. She was raised in East Hampton by her parents, Walter Joseph ("Bumps"), and Rosemary Miller Leddy. Her brother, Walter "Bradley" Leddy, and sister, Susan Leddy Idy, currently live in Florida.
After graduating from East Hampton High School with the Class of 1955, Jane attended Becker Junior College in Worcester, Massachusetts with a major in "Marketing". Then, Jane moved to New York City to model Jewelry for the Coral Jewelry Company. She, also, worked as a Coordinator for banquets at the Biltmore Hotel. Jane returned to her hometown to work at Montauk Downs Golf Club, where her father "Bumps" was known as a golf professional and her mother, Rosemary, was a manager. She has kept in touch with her friends there and in East Hampton.
Jane met and married James Whitfield Spell, Sr., who was serving in the United States Air Force, stationed in Montauk, Long Island, New York. They became engaged and married on July 9, 1957. This past July of 2018, they celebrated sixty-one (61) years of marriage. Relocated to Florida in 1957, they raised four children and have three grandchildren. Jane was a full-time home-maker and housewife. She served as a Leader for the Girl Scouts of America, loved to help others, baking, and making flower arrangements. Attended the Catholic and Baptist churches during her lifetime and was of the Christian Faith. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She is survived by her husband, James Whitfield Spell, Sr., and children: Julia Spell (Phil Price); Jimmy W. Spell, Jr. Walter Randall Spell (Valerie), and Kimberly Rose Spell. Grandchildren: Daniel, Mary, and Andrew Price.
A "Celebration of Life" for Sarah Jane will be at the Highland Funeral Home and Memory Gardens on December 20, 2018 at eleven o'clock in the morning (11:00 a.m.); located at 3329 East Semoran Blvd., Apopka, FL 32703. Donations accepted towards Hospice of the Comforter, 480 West Central Parkway, Altamonte Springs, Fl. 32714.
